BMW Digital Key for iPhone® | BMW Near McAllen, TX
In 2020, BMW rolled out a new function for iPhone® users, called BMW Digital Key for iPhone®. This made BMW the first automaker on Apple®’s platform to offer a fully digital car key. Given that BMW was also the first automaker to have an integrated iPod® into its vehicles, the announcement was not surprising.
How Does It Work?
With BMW Digital Key for iPhone®, you can simply tap the door handle of the BMW model to unlock it when you have the phone on your person. Similarly, once inside the BMW model, just place the iPhone® on the smartphone tray and then press the start button to ignite the engine. You can share up to five versions of the key with your friends and family and specify settings for each driver. This is especially helpful with young drivers, for whom you may want to restrict things like max horsepower or top speed, as well as max radio volume.
This functionality includes a power reserve so that, even if your iPhone® dies due to low battery, it can still function as the key for a full five hours.
Where Can I Get It?
If you purchase a new BMW car or BMW SAV® at BMW of Pharr that was manufactured after July 1, 2020, chances are good your vehicle will come standard with the Digital Key for iPhone®. Specifically, BMW models across 45 countries that include this functionality are:

This function is available on the iPhone® XR, iPhone® XS, and any new iPhone®. It is also available on the Apple Watch® Series 5 and newer.
