Car Washing and Detailing Tips

If you take pride in your BMW, you will want to regularly wash and detail the exterior and interior. You can always pay for a professional car wash and interior detailing, but sometimes, we feel most proud when we do the work ourselves. Here are some tips to help ensure you are washing and waxing your BMW the right way.
Never, Ever Use Dish Soap
Like never, ever. You also shouldn’t use glass cleaner (on the paint; windows and windshields are fine) or dishwashing detergent. Instead, buy a solution that is specially manufactured for car washes.
Start With the Bird Droppings
We never said this was going to be fun. In fact, you should clear away bird droppings as soon as you notice them. This helps protect the paint.
Give It a Good Rinse
Use your hose to give the entire vehicle a good rinse.
Use Two Buckets
Get a bucket filled with soapy water and leave a second just for rinsing. You will want to wash, rinse, and repeat with both of these buckets. You should use a specialized mitt instead of a sponge.
Clean the Wheels
Use the hose for the base cleaning of your wheels, but a brush (even a toothbrush) is ideal for scrubbing the wheels clean.
Don’t Forget the Interior
Speaking of toothbrushes, these can be great for cleaning dust from the air vents of your vehicle, as well as all the knobs and buttons. Use a vacuum on cloth seats and carpets. Pull out all-weather floor mats and spray down with a hose. For leather seating, use only certified leather cleaner. And don’t forget to recycle what you can when cleaning out garbage from the floor and center console.
Give It a Wax
For best results, apply wax in a garage, under a carport, or in the shade. Wax prefers lower temperatures.
Always Dry Using a Microfiber Cloth
Don’t use regular bath towels to dry your vehicle.
